(c)1995 NFL/NBC Universal Week 5's Domino's Pizza NFL on NBC halftime report for the early games (only have a brief snippet of the Steelers/Chargers game that aired later that afternoon). SCORES (Finals and comments) Dolphins 13, Bengals 10 (Miami won 26-23; there was a controversial call late in the game in which Bengals WR Carl Pickens was ruled to have stepped out of bounds prior to a catch that would have put Cincy deep in Miami territory during a drive for a potential game-winning touchdown) Redskins 20, Cowboys 10 (Norv Turner's crew won 27-23 after knocking Troy Aikman out of the game with a concussion) Colts 14, Rams 10 (Colts had the newly-relocated Rams their first loss of season 21-18) Falcons 17, Patriots 7 (Atlanta wins 30-17) Buccaneers 13, Panthers 7 (20-13 triumph for Tampa Bay) Eagles 6, Saints 3 (Philly won 15-10) And with the baseball playoffs looming, we get a bonus score; as the New York Yankees lead the Toronto Blue Jays 4-0 in the 3rd inning (Yankees would win 6-1 for the first American League wild-card slot as well as that team's first postseason trip since 1981). Following a break featuring an NBC promo for the movie "In the Line of Duty", an Advance Auto Parts spot, Nu-Home TV and Furniture (as mentioned elsewhere, it seemed like WAVY loved running these ads during the halftime report) and WAVY plugging the Montel Williams show (which it purloined from WVEC a year earlier); we get a rare (as far as I know, it was rare) halftime edition of News and Notes; as this time Will McDonough reports on the trading deadline and the status of Green Bay Packers tight end Keith Jackson and Oakland Raider safety Patrick Bates (neither of whom went anywhere; though Jackson {having yet to play at this point for Green Bay} was threatening retirement at one point) and Deion Sanders' arrival in Dallas, followed by Ahmad Rashad's interview with injured Pittsburgh cornerback Rod Woodson (out with torn knee ligaments; though he would eventually managed to get to play in Super Bowl XXX). Closing commercials include: NBC's promo for the Sunday lineup of Brotherly Love (seeing as how his previous series {Gimme a Break and Blossom} resulted in Joey Lawrence managing to steal the spotlight from the main stars; he gets the main role opposite real-life brothers Matthew and Andrew); Minor Adjustments (short-lived Rondell Sheridan sitcom for those only familiar with him from Disney Channel's "That's So Raven/Cory in the House" or Nickelodeon's "Cousin Skeeter"); Mad About You (biggest hit of the bunch, not surprisingly) and finally Hope and Gloria (that series' only full season); another WAVY/Golden Corral UAWGM 500 ticket giveaway spot; a WAVY ID (On Your Side) and finally a MLB Playoff promo.

FutureNewsAnchor Says:

Jan 26, 2011 - Rondell Sheridan also starred in the Nickelodeon series Cousin Skeeter and was a panelist on the ill-fated 1998 revival of Match Game. Matt Lawrence joined the cast of Boy Meets World in 1997, portraying Jack Hunter, the long-lost brother of Shawn Hunter (Rider Strong). Lawrence appeared in the show's last three seasons.

HamptonRoadsTVFan Says:

Jan 26, 2011 - Had forgotten about what Rondell had done between Minor Adjustments and That's So Raven. Remembered Matt Lawrence's Boy Meets World role, but had spent about fifteen minutes getting the description on for the video between what I remembered, checking who did what during the intermission as well as the commercials and going over the eventual results for the games mentioned.

FutureNewsAnchor Says:

Jan 26, 2011 - I forgot something else. Around the time of Sheridan's stint on "Cousin Skeeter" and after the '98 "Match Game" was cancelled, he also hosted "Show Me the Funny" on The Family Channel. "Show Me the Funny" was an "AFV" clone, and it was even produced by the same company. While on "That's So Raven", Sheridan hosted "That's Funny", which was a cross between "Show Me the Funny" and "America's Funniest People". (head explodes)
