I love old things. Antiques have been especially dear to me. Guess it started with loving the old furniture in my Grandma's house. It used to be a passion of mine to find the next wonderful piece to add to my house collection. But as time has gone by, I've little by little parted with some of these things. It was hard at first, but then I realized if I love "things" or "stuff" so much that it hurts to lose them, maybe they have too big of a hold on me. I sure won't be able to take any of my so called "treasures" with me when I die. So after enjoying them for a while... I just give them away. It's been a process but through it, I've learned that the greatest treasure I have is Jesus. And nobody will ever be able to take Him away from me. When I first wrote this song, I thought it would probably be a "woman's" song and the guys would feel left out. Was I ever wrong! A crusty old, I mean old, miner came up to me after I had sung this song at an Adult Retreat and said, "Hey, I just wanted to tell you something!" Tears were welling up in his eyes and as he continued talking, they spilled down his cheek. "I used to pick and shovel Gold and Silver out of these here mines in Colorado. I've seen some pretty treaure up there in those mountains, but what you sang about today touched my heart. Gold and Silver don't hold a candle to the treasure in my 'ole heart. I'm richer than all the viens of Gold that's ever been found, cause I got Jesus right here in my heart. I just wanted to thank you for helping me realize that. Seems I thought I'd worked hard all these years and never seemed to be able to have much... but I've got a lot stored over in Heaven!" He rubbed his nose with the back of his hand and walked away. I just stood there thinking, "WOW!" He's right... if we have Jesus in our hearts, we're rich! May we never forget it. "TREASURES OF THE HEART" was copyrighted in Nashville, TN and was recorded on Carma's CD - "His Guiding Light."
